        American Style Fast Food, aimed
at families who do not appreciate the taste of real food
This used to be a really pleasant
pub and restaurant with a nice bar and good food. We passed by and thought
it would be nice to pop in, as we have done in the past, for a drink
and a snack. It had been repainted and there are now adverts stuck on
the outside tables and a sign advertising family meals. Hearts sinking
we went inside to find our fears were confirmed.
The bar has gone, the nice selection of salads
and cold meats and pies has gone. The atmosphere has gone. Instead there
are more tables, American style forced friendliness and fast food. There
was no problem getting a table even though we were asked if we had booked.
The menu makes a BIG point of emphasising the freshness and quality
of the food and the size of the portions. Thinking this would be true
we ordered cheeseburgers. We were told to help ourselves at the salad
bar, this turned out to be about a dozen bowls of sad looking vegetables,
some of which had obviously been there all day, if not all week, the
oldest looking celery I have ever seen sat in the bottom of a bowl,
brown and dried up, while small flies settled in among the other items.
The burgers arrived, lots of melted cheese oozing out of white and insipid
rolls. The cheese was covering a grey flat item that resembled matted
carpet. These were slurry burgers at their worst. It was almost impossible
to cut through, they smelt revolting and tasted absolutely disgusting.Small
splinters of bone in the first mouthful. Had to spit it out,it was foul.
The chips were dry and may have been OK with some ketchup to help them
down but everything comes with BBQ sauce. Other sauces are available
if you ask but no ketchup.
The staff are friendly and helpful and did not charge for one of the
          burgers.
Another minus, the establishment is obviously intended to attract families
with young children who do not appreciate real food. There was a shrieking,
yelling child close by which did nothing for the atmosphere of the place,
although given the quality of the food, it is easy to see why he was
          bawling his head off.
This is the worst food you will find in Dorset, if not in the whole
of the UK. It is not edible.
